SC charges ex-Ranhill director Amran Awaluddin with insider trading

KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission has charged two persons at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with insider trading offences involving the shares of Ranhill Power Bhd in 2007.

The SC said on Friday Amran Awaluddin, 46, a former director of Ranhill Bhd and Ranhill Power Bhd was charged with acquiring 309,100 units of Ranhill Power shares between July 27, 2007 and Sept 11,2007, when he had then possession of material non-public information.

The insider trading offence was under section 89E(2)(a) of the Securities Industry Act 1983.

The SC alleged the material non-public information was related to the proposed privatisation and de-listing of Ranhill Power which was announced on 11 September 2007.

Amran, who faces seven charges is said to have acquired the said shares through the account of Nooralina Mohd Shah.

Nooralina, 40, faced seven charges for abetting Amran in the commission of the offences.

Amran and Nooralina claimed trial to the charges.

Sessions Court Judge Mat Ghani bin Abdullah set bail at RM150,000 each for both Amran and Nooralina with one surety.
