Proton Satria Neo Super 2000 Rally Car Prototypes




Proton Satria Neo to Compete in World Rally Championship

We have just received spyshots of the development prototype of a Proton Neo Super 2000 Rally car. Not much is known about who is building it or where. Neither are there any confirmed information about who will be competiting in this car. But it sure looks to be a fascinating story to keep tabs on especially for local rallying enthusiasts like us.

What is for sure though is that it should start competing in at last a few rounds of the Super 2000 category in world rally competitions by the middle of this year.

Super 2000, also known as S2000, is an FIA specification and classification for production based race cars. The specification is split to cover both rally and touring car racing.

The goal of the Super 2000 classification is to allow more manufacturers and privateers to race by reducing the cost of a competitive car.

Other Super 2000 makes in current competition:

Toyota Auris
Skoda Fabia
Peugeot 207 RCup
Abarth Grande Punto
Ford Fiesta
VW Polo
MG ZR

FIA specifications include the following:

* Derived from production model, of which 2500 have been produced in the past year
* Maximum of 2 liter displacement
* Maximum of 280 bhp
* Normal Aspiration
* Minimal weight 1150kg
* All wheel drive is permitted in rally cars, but not in touring cars.
* 6-speed sequential gearbox (Control specification made by Sadev, Xtrac or Ricardo. No electronics allowed in differentials)
* Front and rear McPherson suspension
* No electronic driver aids
* Maximum width of 1.8 meters
* Must be for sale at a maximum price of 100,000.

Super 2000 spec cars are currently run in:

* British Touring Car Championship
* Intercontinental Rally Challenge
* Australian Rally Championship
* Italian Rally Championship
* Production World Rally Championship
* South African Rally Championship

South Africa was the first country in the world to run Super 2000 cars in rallying. Toyota South Africa and Volkswagen South Africa build 2 cars each to compete in the South African Rally Championship in 2005

MEM Proton Satria Neo Super 2000


This is the MEM Proton Satria Neo Super 2000 Rally Car. The Super 2000 Rally was proposed by the FIA because of the rising costs of running World Rally Cars and competing in the World Rally Championship.


The following are the specs for a Super 2000 Rally Car:

* 3, 4 or 5-door models with length over 3900mm

* Generic 4X4 transmission without active differential from Sadev or Xtrac

* 2.0 liter normally aspirated engine from either a base engine used in any model from the manufacturer, or a engine licensed from another manufacturer with 2,500 units minimum production per year

* Engine must comply to BTCC/ETC specs with 8,500rpm rev limit

* Minimum weight - 1100kg tarmac, 1150kg gravel

* Maximum bodywork and wheel arch extension width 1800mm



The MEM Satria Neo S2000 complies to these specifications, measuring 3905mm long, 1800mm wide with a 2440mm wheelbase and a weight of 1150kg. Its chassis is based on the road-going Neo and has been strengthened to comply with FIA regulations and the components of a S2000 rally car. It is fitted with a rollcage built from 35 meters of Chrome-Moly Steel Tubing.

Its 4-cylinder 1998cc DOHC normally aspirated engine is based on the 1.8 liter Renault engine in the Waja. It produces 280hp at 7,800rpm and a massive 271Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, and is installed transversely at the front of the car. This engine is mated to an Xtrac 6-speed sequential transmission with Alcon clutch and 3 player LSD.

Brakes are also from Alcon, with 300mm discs with 4 piston calipers at the front and 300mm discs at the rear on gravel. For asphalt, the front brake discs are uprated to 350mm. Wheels are 18 inch alloys for tarmac and 15 inch alloys for gravel. The car's electronics system runs on the GEMS Multiplex System with Power Management, Data Logging and a Glass Dash Display

ini pakai pada wira ... dalam tahun 90an dulu... ada lebih kurang 30 unit sahaja bolt on unit tu.... dulu aku ada gambar dia yg dibeli oleh member aku masuk sama wira rally dia, tapi itu gambar sudah ilang la.... sebab bukan dalam bentuk digital....
dalam tahun 2001-2003 dulu, aku ada jumpa sebijik kat eon taman ACBE di bahau negeri sembilan.... skunk ni memang rare item lah....

Insentif buat pelumba



PEMILIK pasukan lumba tempatan kini boleh memohon untuk mengecualikan cukai ke atas pembelian kenderaan lumba mereka yang baru, yang insentifnya tidak ramai disedari pihak berkenaan.

Namun, mereka perlu membuat permohonan bagi pengecualian itu menerusi Persatuan Permotoran Malaysia (MAM), kata Ketua Eksekutif MAM, Mia Sharizman Ismail dalam satu kenyataan.

Saya suka menggalakkan pasukan lumba agar mengambil kesempatan daripada skim pengecualian cukai yang kami ada ini. Mereka yang berminat boleh menghubungi kami secepat mungkin, katanya.

MAM bekerjasama dengan pelbagai pihak termasuk Kementerian Kewangan serta Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri untuk memberi pengecualian cukai terhadap pembelian kereta lumba.

Antara pelumba yang mendapat faedah itu tahun ini ialah Marcus Chye (Lotus Exige 240), Sulaiman Mohd Helmi (Lotus 2 Eleven), Ashraff Dewal (Lotus 2 Eleven) and William Chong (Toyota Celica).

Bintang rali negara, Karamjit Singh turut menerima pengecualian bagi kenderaan yang digunakannya pada Kejohanan Rali Malaysia tahun ini dan Kejohanan Rali Asia Pasifik Malaysia.

Kami membantu Karamjit untuk memohon pengecualian cukai bagi kenderaan Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8RS untuk menyertai kejohanan tahun ini, kata Mia Sharizman.

Pirelli cari pelumba untuk WRC




LALUAN Rali Malaysia Ancom 2008 menjadi pilihan kepada pemilihan pelumba Skim Litar Driver Pirelli (Pirelli) peringkat Asia, tahun ini.

Pirelli menjadikan pentas Rali Malaysia di Johor Bahru pada 10 hingga 12 Oktober ini sebagai medan pemilihan pelumba muda berbakat yang berpeluang beraksi di Kejuaraan Rali Dunia (WRC), musim depan.

Menurut pembantu pelumba kepada Gaurav Gill yang juga jurucakap Pirelli di Malaysia, Jagdev Singh, seorang pelumba dari Asia Pasifik, Timur Tengah dan Afrika sementara dua dari Eropah akan dikenalpasti untuk bersaing dalam Kumpulan N atau Super 2000 WRC.

Ia terbuka untuk semua pelumba muda dalam lingkungan usia kurang 27 tahun.

Bagi musim ini, hanya Malaysia dan Rali Whangarei di New Zealand menjadi lokasi pilihan untuk pemilihan itu.

Sememangnya menjadi impian setiap pelumba muda beraksi di WRC dan Pirelli merealisasikannya dengan menyediakan bantuan kewangan, katanya.

Skim ini adalah inisiatif baru antara Pirelli, pengeluar tayar Itali dengan Persekutuan Automobil Antarabangsa (FIA) dalam mencari pelumba pelapis WRC.

Sehingga kini, sembilan pelumba muda berusaha meraih peluang itu termasuk Gaurav serta dua pelumba New Zealand, Hayden Paddon dan Brad Ayling.

Parts or accessories replaced/installed under warranty, are covered for the time remaining in the Race Rally Research (R3) Limited Warranty.


Stage 2 Warranty

Race Rally Research (R3) Stage 2″ Performance Accessories are warranted for any material defects only. What Is Not Covered

* Damage or corrosion due to accidents, misuse, or alterations.
* Damage or surface corrosion from the environment such as acid rain, airborne fallout (chemicals, tree sap), stones, salt road hazards, hail, wind storm, lightning, floods and other natural disaster.
* Normal wear, tear or deterioration such as discoloration, fading, deformation, blurring, etc.
* Replacement parts, or accessories installed on a Proton Vehicle in which the odometer has been altered, or on which the actual mileage cannot be readily determined.
* Replacement parts or accessories used in applications for which they are not designed.
* Replacement parts or accessories installed improperly by Dealers, Importers/Distributors other than the official Proton Dealers, Importers/Distributors.
* Any replacement part or accessory without proof of purchase or replacement date.
* Non-Genuine Proton replacement parts or accessories, which Proton Dealers may sell or install on your Proton Vehicle.
* If the vehicle has been classified a total loss and/or sold for salvage purposes or branded for any other reasons.
* Removal of the vehicle from the warranty covered market for which it was produced.

Apparently this is a possibility, and Proton is actually working at making this happen, according to Proton director Datuk Haji Abdul Razak Dawood. He says a successful WRC program could establish Proton's brand and reputation in Europe the same way it helped Subaru in the 90s.

According to Datuk Haji, a Proton Satria Neo in the WRC could possibly turn it into a cult car with a following like what Subaru enjoyed with the WRX. If the proposed WRC regulation revisions to a S2000+ spec's becomes official, it would allow Proton to compete in the WRC with a much smaller budget and compete against the big boys like Ford and Citroen. All that needs to be done is to upgrade the existing MEM Satria Neo S2000 (shown above) to whatever the S2000+ spec is.

2003 World Champion Petter Solberg is said to be in talks with Proton for a 2010 season. He will be testing the MEM Satria Neo S2000 car sometime in February, and according to him the Proton is a nice and detailed car. He says he has met with Proton but nothing about the proposed 2010 season has been finalised yet. There is also word about Solberg racing in a Citroen C4 instead, but he says that deal has not been finalised yet either.
