usus tu dipotong dan alihkan supaya pendek........

otto Publish time 19-11-2007 04:13 PM

mix_chinese Publish time 20-11-2007 08:39 AM

hehe.. saya la orgnya yang potong usus tue. mmg 2/3 shj tinggal. tapi bukan utk kurus , utk kurangkan gastric-reflux (acid reflux)
saya nasihatkan usah la.. buat la cara lain nak kurus.

Gastric bypass procedures (GBP) are any of a group of similar operations used to treat morbid obesity梩he severe accumulation of excess weight as fatty tissue梐nd the health problems (comorbidities) it causes. Bariatric surgery is the term encompassing all of the surgical treatments for morbid obesity, not just gastric bypasses, which make up only one class of such operations.

A gastric bypass first divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a much larger, lower "remnant" pouch and then re-arranges the small intestine to allow both pouches to stay connected to it. Surgeons have developed several different ways to reconnect the intestine, thus leading to several different GBP names. Any GBP leads to a marked reduction in the functional volume of the stomach, accompanied by an altered physiological and psychological response to food. The resulting weight loss, typically dramatic, markedly reduces comorbidities. The death rate is reduced by up to 40%.

Gastric Bypass Surgery
Gastric bypass operations combine the creation of a small stomach pouch torestrict food intake and construction of bypasses of the duodenum and othersegments of the small intestine to cause malabsorption (decreased ability toabsorb nutrients from food).
What Types of Gastric Bypass Operations Are There?    [*]      Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB). This operation is the most commongastric bypass procedure performed in the U.S. First, a small stomach pouch iscreated by stapling part of the stomach together or by vertical banding. Thislimits how much food you can eat. Next, a Y-shaped section of the smallintestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the duodenum as wellas the first portion of the jejunum. This causes reduced calorie and nutrientabsorption. This procedure can now be done with a laparoscope (a thintelescope-like instrument for viewing inside the abdomen) in some people. Thisinvolves using small incisions and generally has a more rapid recoverytime.[*]      Extensive gastric bypass (biliopancreatic diversion). In this morecomplicated gastric bypass operation, the lower portion of the stomach isremoved. The small pouch that remains is connected directly to the finalsegment of the small intestine, thus completely bypassing both the duodenum andjejunum. Although this procedure successfully promotes weight loss, it is not as widelyused because of the high risk for nutritional deficiencies.          http://img.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets/site_images/articles/health_and_medical_reference/digestive_disorders/gastric.jpg
Gastric bypass operations that cause malabsorption and restrictfood intake produce more weight loss than restriction operations, which only decrease food intake. People who havebypass operations generally lose two-thirds of their excess weight within 2years.
Are There Risks Associated With Gastric Bypass Surgery?    Yes. People who undergo this procedure are at risk for:    [*]Pouch stretching (stomach gets bigger overtime, stretching back to itsnormal size before surgery).[*]Band erosion (the band closing off part of the stomach disintegrates).[*]Breakdown of staple lines (band and staples fall apart, reversingprocedure).[*]Leakage of stomach contents into the abdomen (this is dangerous because theacid can eat away other organs).[*]Nutritional deficiencies causing health problems.    Gastric bypass operations also may cause "dumpingsyndrome," whereby stomach contents move too rapidly through the smallintestine. Symptoms include nausea, weakness, sweating, faintness, and, occasionally, diarrhea after eating, as wellas the inability to eat sweets without becoming extremely weak. Gallstones can occur inresponse to rapid weight loss. They can bedissolved with medication taken after the surgery.    What Health Problems Can Nutritional Deficiencies Cause?    The limited absorption of vitamin B-12 and iron can cause anemia. The lack of calciumabsorption can cause osteoporosis andmetabolic bone disease. People who undergo this procedure are required to takenutritional supplements that usuallyprevent these deficiencies.    The more extensive the bypass operation, the greater is therisk for complications and nutritional deficiencies. People who undergoextensive bypasses of the normal digestive process require not only closemonitoring, but also lifelong use of special foods and medications.

Health Dangers of Gastric Bypass Surgery
General Information About The Health Risks of Stomach Bypass

    * The health risk of operations like Roux-en-Y bypass are relatively small and getting smaller. As medical data improves along with the skill and experience of surgeons, bariatric treatments are becoming safer. In general, while there is a risk of dying during or after stomach bypass, most patients achieve significant improvements in co-morbidities like heart disease, lung function, blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers, and seem to live longer.
    * Important risk factors for health complications (and premature death) following gastric bypass include: the physical condition of the patient - including weight and specific comorbid conditions, the complexity of the bariatric procedure, and the skill and experience of the surgeon.
    * Laparoscopic gastric bypass typically leads to less pain, and fewer incisional hernias than open surgery bypass. However, laparoscope-assisted surgery is more demanding and inexperienced bariatric surgeons can expect an initial increase in perioperative and post-operative complications. Studies show that with greater experience of laparoscopy, the health risks decrease and approach those of gastric bypass procedures performed by open surgical techniques.
    * At present, the general death rate from bariatric surgery seems to vary between 0.2 and 1 percent.
    * A recent study revealed that severely obese patients who chose bypass surgery, reduced their risk of premature death by up to 89 percent, compared to equally overweight patients who did not get surgical treatment.
    * In another study of 66,000 obese patients, about 3 percent of gastric-bypass patients (under 40) died in the 13.6 years after the surgery, compared with 14 percent of obese patients who were not treated surgically.
    * About 10-20 percent of patients undergoing stomach bypass require follow-up operations to correct complications, the most common complaints being abdominal hernias.
    * More than one-third of patients who have gastric bypass surgery develop gallstones.
    * Complication rates in the early post-operative period, such as infection, dehiscence, leaks from staple breakdown, stomal stenosis, ulcers and deep thrombo-phlebitis may be as high as ten percent or more. However, the combined risk of the most serious complications (gastrointestinal leak and deep venous thrombosis) is less than one per cent.
    * Over the long term, the health complications of gastric bypass may include a variety of conditions and problems. According to one 14-year follow-up study of stomach bypass patients, the morbidity rates were as follows: vitamin B12 deficiency (39.9 percent), incisional hernia, (23.9 percent), depression (23.7 percent), staple line failure (15 percent), gastritis ( 13.2 percent), cholecystitis (11.4 percent), anastomotic problems (9.8 percent), dehydration malnutrition (5.8 percent), dilated pouch (3.2 percent).
    * The health risks of revisional surgery are higher.

Just my personal advice, I know how frustrating it can be to try to lose weight. But going under a knife is not the only solution, there are always risks involved because it is like a shortcut of sorts. The battle to lose weight will always be prevalent for both women and even men nowadays.

I hope you do your proper research and think carefully before making a decision.

All the best.
