LUCKNOW, India (AP) - Hundreds of thousands of Indians thronged temples across India on Monday in the belief that statues of Hindu gods were drinking milk.

"I put a milk-filled spoon to Ganesha's mouth and he drank it," exclaimed Akhilesh Shukla, a trader in Lucknow, capital of northern Uttar Pradesh state.

He was among thousands of devotees who carried milk in glasses and pitchers to northern Indian temples where Hindus worship Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of good fortune and wisdom; Shiva, the destroyer, and Durga, the goddess of strength.

"It is a miracle," said Sudhir Mishra, a priest at a Shiva temple in Lucknow. He said that at least 10 litres of milk had been offered at his temple on Monday.

"Look at the floor it is fairly dry. Where's the milk gone? It should be visible on floor. Can you see that," he said.

As the word spread through television reports, crowds swarmed temples in dozens of cities, just as millions did during a similar episode in 1995, when authorities were forced to deploy extra police to control crowds. Some parts of the country also faced a milk shortage.

At that time, a group of scientists visited a temple in New Delhi and fed a statue milk tinted with dye. The milk was quickly absorbed by the idol, and soon permeated the stone, leaving the statue coated by a coloured, milky film.

Hindu Gods are back to drink Milk again, just went the World in state of Chaos and Darkness. :)
When Man needs something to hold on, They holds out Their Hands for them to gasp.

Simple answer...Hinduism is based on symbols...idols is a symbols of our beliefs and shows the existence of god in this world...do u know how Parahbrahmam, allah, or God father look like? No idea!!! Thats the reason Hindu god came into figures n shows their presence on this earth...

Nonsense. Hinduism IS NOT based on Symbols. Hinduism IS THE ONLY religion on the Planet which have explained (perfectly) the creation of the Universe, Planets, how the Solar system revolves (with the Sun in the middle), the distance between Sun and the Earth and so much more. Hinduism DO NOT rely on symbols to explain anything.

Yes it is! Hinduism is same as the proverb "Actions speak louder than wiords' which means it tells a wider meanings through its symbols to explain why it is so and so on. Get it?

Or can u explain why pranavam is or Om is shaped like that? Because it explains the trinity concept of our religion, simple as that. And of course each symbols contains a lot of meaning behind of it.

Yes it is explaining about the Universe but it also contains symbols. Such as Sevvai kiragham " Mars' is red in colour ' Sevvaai menas red' Our ancestors had created them a long time ago using symbols to represent the universe in forms of statues and names, and als again again symbols. You cant denied this!

Symbols do not promote actions or anything. Symbols leaves everything to the translator to make sense, and in many cases, the translator can misinterprete it, and follow the wrong assumption, leading him down into path of darkness, delusion and destruction.

Hinduism deals with facts and facts alone. In years of studying the Hindus texts such as Bhavagad Gita and the Vedas, I have noticed that in most situation, it is not the text which have error, but the translators who lacks the Worldly knowledge to understand what had been written.

Furthermore, I do not believe that religious texts in Hinduism should be left in hands of religious authorities alone. Religious authorities have very little knowledge about Worldly knowledge, and they could make the religious text into myth-like text which hold very little scientific knowledge in it. Religious texts must be read and translated by scientific communities as well as religous authorities, only then the secrets of Hindu texts will be revealed.

It is irrelevant question. Statue is statue. The Gods which resides within it is merely a force which moves around and occupies the statues whenever they choose to do so. The Gods are around us - in wind, fire, earth and water. It is they who perform miracles like the drinking of milk.

How do you know that 'THEY" are true God?
Earth, wind and fire? Who told you? Holy book? Who confirm that the holy book is holy?
You?

Answer your own question about Al Quran, before you can demand answers from others.

Who said Al Quran is holy? Muhammad?
