Cerita kat movie ni tak complicated but still heart warming. Awal muvie macam biase but i like scenes dekat ending. I love Marisa Anita performance as Alis mother. She such good actor.

Alis yang budak perempuan tu ke?

Sedih sebab mak dia tidak mahu dia dalam hidup baru mak dia. But I think mak dia dah confess kat husband dia. Nampak macam happy ending untuk Ali.

Yang jadi mak Ali tu pun bagus berlakon. English with american accent dia perfect taklah macam artis malaysia yang kadang2 sound fake. Tapi memang dia ni grad drp UK dan Australia dan news reader. patut pun english dia bagus.
Yang jadi girl tu pun bagus english dia so logiklah dia dah stay lama di NY. Tak lah mcm sesetengan cerita- duduk overseas tapi english berterabut.

Org malaysia ni memang banyak yg stay kat overseas ke? Banyak indon stay/study/work kat overseas but most of citizen are not. So cerite tipical macam Ali ni banyak diproduksi kat indon, because it interesting for most of us who never live in other country. Story macam indoncouple and their problem in NY like Critical Eleven, indon student who strugled finish their study in Germany like Rentang Kisah, Indon Girl who tried change her live in singapore like Marry Riana: Mimpi sejuta dolar, muslim's life priblem in Europe/US like 99 cahaya di langit eropa & Bulan terbelah di Langit Amerika, or Indonesian Worker problem in Hongkong like Minggu Pagi di Victoria park.

Those kind of story is rare in malaysian movies. I don't know because its common for Malaysian to live/study/work in overseas so those of kind story maybe become not interesting anymore to make or just because nobody never make those kind of story. When you said Ali & Ratu Ratu Queen remind you when you live there." I'm curious about your life, just tell me more about how was your life there as a movie". Maybe this kind of thought will probably pop up in the heads of Indonesians filmaker when a film like that is made . Just personal opinion, maybe I wrong haha

Are you asking me? Abt my life there? Nothing interesting. I spent around 10 years there.
It was few years back. I studied and worked in cinnecticut. My hse is 100 miles from NY city. So every week or fortnight will go to china town in manhattan to buy seafood. Then to queens and jackson heights to buy halal groceries and eat beriani at the pakistani restaurants.
If i tak pergi NY city, i'll go to to the factory outlets in long island or bradford commons.

Near my place ada 2 indonesian couples. 1 as a lecturer in one of the state u. Another couple as illegal imigrant. Mula2 datang as student, pastu tak habis study and kerja partime.

1 malaysian couple. Pun illegal imigrant. Husband dia mula2 datang study, failed and cari kerja. Wife pulak datang as maid and tak balik msia ikut majikan. They stayed dah 10 tahun. Berani pulak and both couples tu tak pernah pulak kena tangkap. Yg malaysia couple tu- husband dia kerja as mechanic. Hidupa mereka so so ajelah, dapat bantuan food stamps. Walaupun mereka hidup agak susah tapi still tak nak balik msia. Mereka nak sekolahkan anak2'mereka di sana. Mereka ada 4 org anak.
The latest news, wife malaysian couple ni dah dapat us citizenship. Anak dia filed kan and kena bayar a few thousand dollars. Husband dia tak buat lagi sbb tak cukup duit.

Ada juga satu gay couple ( melayu & american) tapi dah lost contact.

Seronok tgk dia duk New York but has price to pay la.. Mak dia nikah mat salleh tgk gaya mcm dh convert to Christian.
Queens tu plak ada yg hidup main judi, minum arak biasa la kot (scene mak Ali dtg rumah mcm bawak arak, situasi biasa mat salleh bila dtg makan2 rumah kawan)..sambut Thanksgiving lagi.
Malaysia mmg takkan la buat filem mcm ni. Nak kena maki? Hahaha... Ali pulak masa kat Indon nmpak gak warak.

Satu scene makcik Ali kat Indon pesan jgn makan babi.. Haha.. Tergelak i. Sama mcm org melayu kita. Makan Babi haraaaammm.. Yg lain2 buat x nmpak.

Syukur kita lahir di Malaysia...

What? nothing interesting? for indonesian theres a lot interesting thing in your stories. When you return from the US, They would love to spend a lot of time listening to your life/work/college story. I don't gereralise all indonesian like that, but there are some examples

Jerome Polin Sijabat or better known as Jerome Polin, is an Indonesian YouTuber and internet celebrity. He is known after starting a YouTube channel called Nihongo Mantappu which shares his personal life in Japan. He often vlogs how to learn Japanese, mathematics, and his daily life in Japan. Adalah sikit2;P. Macamana susah payah i belajar sambil jaga anak. Pastu nak hantar anak ke nusery. Ada 1 family melayu tapi tak jaga anak i. Bukannya nak free tapi berbayar. Masa anak i kecik lagi and tak boleh ke nursery, i ambil baby sitter. Macamana i cekal tinggalkan anak2 masa pergi kelas.
Pastu apt i terbakar. I ingat i buka stove utk rebus ketupat segera tapi terbuka stove yg ada pan isi minyak.

yeah that interesting. Your neighbors background story also interesting.the people there seemed to have so many roles at the same time. As a parent but also as a wife/husband, as a worker, as a student, as a muslim, and many more. And each role has different responsibilities. Everyone wants to be the best version of themselves in all roles, but sometimes life creates roles for us that actually have responsibilities that conflict with our other roles. As a student and a parent maybe sometimes you can't do the best for both at once due to time constraints or other things, and sacrifice not to be good at one role. Like the choice of being a good worker or a good wife/husband, and every choice has consequences. It feels like we are at a crossroads where sometimes we don't even know what the end of each path will be. and even after we make a decision, sometimes the conflict still continues because we continue to question whether the decision we make is right or wrong. Things like that are what I get when I watch this kind of film. And being an immigrant might make the problem even more difficult because when we are at the bottom of life we feel alone because our family is not there. And I know if it happen, that such issues must be uncomfortable to present to strangers in there. And on the other hand immigrants also have stories of happiness that are not obtained like most people. And Indonesian like those kind of story. I don't know if I'm wrong or being too dramatic or too much hahaha, but thanks for sharing your story. Hope we all find happiness wherever we are hahaha

Oh I see, but it would be very difficult to make a film that suits everyone. Maybe what I want to say is that if there are Indonesian storytellers or content creators who have lived/worked/studied abroad, their experience there is a good raw material for making stories because it fits the Indonesian market. But I can't be sure if there is such a phenomenon in Malaysian films. I hope Malaysian filmmakers find formulas and stories that are suitable for the Malaysian and make Msia films as impresive as Msia animation.
