Dashboard camera or dashcam has been around for ages but it wasn’t made popular until people started sharing road rage or accident footages on social media network. It made us realise the importance of having the crucial video evidence when undesirable commotion took place.
Special thanks to Transcend Information Inc for sending us a unit of their mid-high range dashcam – the Transcend DrivePro 230 for review. Read on to find how does the dashcam fares in our day to day drive.

The lighter socketcharger has a long cable for cable routing.

Transcend has generously included a 16GB microSD card with the dashcam. The MLC-based NAND flash memory is designed for consistent long-life durability and endurance.16GB will be enough for recording 2 hours of 1080p Full HD footage. When the memory is full, the dashcam will overwrite the oldest video.

The package I received comes with the suction mount option. There is also adhesive mount option for purchase.

At the front, apart from the 130-degree ultra-wide angle lens, there isn’t much going on here except for the printed branding and specifications which is a little bit too much.

Do we need to tell the world that our dashcam has GPS and WiFi capabilities? In fact it certain countries like in Malaysia, we tend to keep this kind of car accessories low profile because car brake-in do happen.

The 2.4-inch TFT LCD may not has the best viewing angle and colour reproduction, but it works just fine for a car dashboard camera. The 4 buttons under the display work for the navigation across the settings and configuration. The overall build quality is solid with high-quality finishing.

The dashcam is automatically powered on when it detects a power input from the micro USB port at the right. It takes less than 5 seconds to power on and starts recording. Pretty impressive. On the left is the microSD card slot which supports up to 128GB capacity. The eye-catching red button is the emergency record button. Once pressed, the dashcam will start recording and saving the video file in the emergency folder where the file won’t get overwritten or accidentally deleted.

I like it when it's a front and rear dash cam which has almost a 360 view.
