One of my fav book characters relationships:
the enemies-turned-friends between Aziraphale (an angel) and Crowley (a demon) in Good Omens.

aku suka their dry-humour dialogues, jokes & puns.

Giving It Up by Audra North
Like 50 Shades of Grey in reverse, this story follows a SWAT officer who eventually becomes the submissive partner of a woman who's not yet sure how to dominate. Sarah Lyons, editorial director of Riptide Publishing, says that although Giving It Up is erotic fiction, the author's sweet voice "makes you want to say 'aww' in ways that are just so unexpected."

Each book in Stacey's Boston Fire Series explores a relationship between a firefighter and a woman who catches his eye. If you're looking for something hot (pun intended), Lyons says these are the books for you: "Great female characters, hot male characters, and a writer who really nails an authentic Boston voice."       Set in World War II–era Scotland, this novel follows the journey of society woman Madeline Hyde and her husband, who sets out to find proof of the Loch Ness monster. When Madeline is left trapped in a small town inn for days, she slowly gets to know the villagers and forms beautiful new relationships. Romance writer Lauren Willig calls it "a wonderful dovetailing of coming of age story and love story, where the character has to learn to love herself before she can love truly."       Tired of her aristocratic life, Lady Helena Montagu-Douglas-Parr flees to Paris, sheds her title, and becomes simply "Ms. Parr." As she pursues her dream to become an artist, Ms. Parr connects with a crowd of American expatriates and falls for the "dangerously attractive and deeply scarred" Chicago Tribune reporter Sam Howard. Although the story is enthralling on its own, Willig says Moonlight Over Paris is worth a read just for the depictions of Paris.       This collaborative novel from three New York Times best-selling authors, including Willig, presents a multigenerational story of love and loss that spans 50 years. While caring for wounded Captain Cooper Ravenal at a Manhattan hospital in 1945, Dr. Kate Schuyler finds a portrait in the captain's things of a mysterious woman who looks just like her, wearing a pendant like one her mother had given her years before.       Set in the Old West, this book explores the relationship between a black man who passes for white and a black woman who doesn't. Their "forbidden" relationship might cost him everything. "The conflict is a conflict I don't think I've ever seen before in a romance," says Lyons. "Beverly Jenkins writes historical romance in a way that makes the history come to life."       Marin Rush is a researcher at a high-end, experimental sexual therapy institute. The only problem? She doesn't actually enjoy sex. one of my favourite relationships is this mother-adoptive daughter relationship in My Best Friend's girl.
a (black) mother and white daughter.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51ETRM4BTYL.jpg

The book is based around a woman called Kamryn Matika, who finds out her best friend, Adele, is dying of cancer. Adele wants Kamryn to adopt her five-year-old daughter, Tegan after she dies.On her birthday, she receives a card—not a birthday card—from her former best friend, Adele Brannon, which says that she is in hospital and she is dying. Kamryn is reluctant to see her. Two years previously, she discovered that her partner and her best friend conceived a child together three years earlier. Kamryn had vowed never to speak to them again. However, she visits London anyway but when at the hospital she discovers that Adele has terminal cancer and is going to die soon. She is shocked when Adele says that she wants Kamryn to adopt her daughter Tegan.

Being a (black) woman who is left with no choice but to adopt her (ex)best friend's daughter ( <- which also will always remind her of her ex boyfriend..
not only she's reminded of her past, but these duo (kamryn & tegan) also couldnt escape the stares from people who often think Kamryn is Tegan's nanny :rf: I like it so much since the book deals with themes of death and grief, innocence and forgiveness.

i've so much praise for Dorothy Koomson i think my friends pun dah get bored of it. https://mforum.cari.com.my/static/image/smiley/default/3sweat.gif

Jess and Kika Jordan (sisters relationship) in Almost, by Anne Eliot.

"Jess Jordanwasalmostraped.Almost. Verynearly. Not quite. Three years later, Jess has fooled everyone into believing she's better."

Usually older sister yang looking out for the younger sister. Ni terbalik. In this book, the older sister (Jess) suffers from rape-related PTSD, and her younger sister (Kika) helps Jess to be normal again by creating a list, 'Jess Jordan's How to be Normal Checklist'.

Why need a normal checklist? Sebab Jess x pernah recover pun. Jess pretends to be okay so the parents will stop hovering like a heli n benarkan dia lead a normal life (read: move out from home and sambung study).

Jess ni sejak insident almost raped tu dia avoid tidur waktu malam because tidur malam tu akan trigger the incident. So, Jess curi nap waktu siang, minum red-bull to stay awake. Kika banyak cover untuk Jess, to make sure the parents stay out of the loop.

Walaupun the sisters relationship hanya sekadar subplot tapi I rasa important and meaningful.

Favorite book relationships- >stranger turns boss-employee relationship-> lovers, emma corrigan and jack harper ditto! Despite being a chick lit book, "Can u keep a secret?"is however suprisingly funny and quirky. I love how cute emma corrigan is with her ways of relieving herself on the plan by pouring all of her lifetime secrets to a stranger who turns out to be his boss. Wait, not just an usual boss but handsome and charming boss. There are so many crazy and funny ( again ?) incidences that led to unforgettable romance. I believe many girls as well as boys will be hooked up with the book as it is a very funny yet heartwarming novel.

Im not sure if this is legit, but Im loving the relationship between Lady Diana and Prince Charles as I read recently in Diana: Her Own Words book.

The whole world knows who she is, but very little know how bad her life was during her marriage with the prince. To sum up, Lady Di kahwin with Prince Charles masa umur dia 19 tahun and the Prince was 13 years older- 32 tahun. Sebelum dia kahwin she was aware that he had a lover and never really love Lady Di, tp dia just tabah and berharap yg one day dia berubah.

Before dorang kahwin, Prince Charles tegur yg Lady Di chubby and she instantly became bulimic for years sampai la anak kedua (Prince Harry) lahir, which is tahun 84. 3 tahun bulimic, mengandung dua kali, laki ada perempuan lain, and still smiling in public like nothings going on? Wow.

Masa dia mengandung Prince William, dia pernah dengan sengaja jatuhkan diri dia dari tangga with hope to die sbb Prince Charles just biar dia and not be on her side masa tu. Bear in mind, dia dah la mengandung, bulimic lg. This is not the first time she tried to kill herself. Even after 3 bulan dorang kahwin (they were married in July, so in Oct) dia dah seriously trying to cut her wrist. And throughout dorang punya marriage (1981-1996), laki dia ada perempuan lain tapi Lady Di still manage to raise her sons well and as normal as possible, buat thousands of charity that she is still called the Face of Charity.

So I guess what I really like is Lady Diana herself, and her relationship with Prince Charles. Their fight after the divorce wasreally bad (search 'War of The Waleses', epic bhai) and I know he was a pig to her but after she died, he himself went to recognize her dead body (even Lady Di ada adik beradik lain and dia boleh je suruh sape2 dia nak sbb shes not under his responsibility anyways), he took full responsible to their children and made sure to raise them according to their late mother's wish they will, and went on to continue everything she worked on until Prince William is big enough to replace him. Its love, but a different kind of love.

17 Most Screwed Up Relationships In Books

http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1319637/images/n-SCREWED-UP-BOOK-COUPLES-628x314.jpg

We’ve all had a bad breakup...or four. But we don’t really think relationships get any crazier in real life than they have in some classic and contemporary literature.
Take “Gone Girl”‘s Amy and Nick. Would you want to date either of them? We didn’t think so.
From Oedipus and Jocasta to Anastasia and Christian Grey, here are the most dysfunctional book couples. Trust us, these people will make you feel good about your worst relationship.
Who are your favorite dysfunctional literary couples? Let us know in the comments!

Charles Ryder + Sebastian Flyte (“Brideshead Revisited”)
Some people don’t think Ryder and Flyte were romantically involved (we think those people are stupid). Flyte was a crazy alcoholic, Ryder was an obsessive social climber. Flyte also never seems to reconcile his strict Catholicism with his sexuality. He is extremely depressed and reclusive. And then throw in the fact that it wasn’t socially acceptable to be gay back then: a relationship doomed before it even began.

Heathcliff + Catherine (“Wuthering Heights”)
Well, this starts out really great. They’re childhood friends who can’t bear to spend any time apart. But then Catherine becomes super genteel and Heathcliff is, well, not. And then Catherine gets married to someone else because Heathlciff is not good enough (status-wise) for her. Heathcliff is devastated, and runs away. He ALSO marries someone else , and comes back to Wuthering Heights (probably to spite Catherine. Who knows?). Then Catherine DIES. But don’t worry; she’s not totally gone. She’s just a ghost now.

Mr. Rochester +Antoinette (“Wide Sargasso Sea”)
“Wide Sargasso Sea” gives us a very different perspective of the crazy woman in the attic that tries to set Mr. Rochester on fire. It makes Rochester seem like a heartless man, and Antoinette seem like a girl who wants to make it work but is, unfortunately, a little unhinged. Rochester ends up married to another and Antoinette ends up dead.

Jake Barnes + Brett Ashley (“The Sun Also Rises”)
Trust Hemingway to write a f*cked up relationship. Jake is impotent, Brett doesn’t love anything more than she loves sex. He is hopelessly devoted to her, but she can’t help flirting and bedding every handsome man she sees.

Humbert Humbert + Lolita (“Lolita”)
Um, do we need to mention anything more than the age difference and the fact that he’s technically her guardian?
http://stagehappenings.com/Dale_Reynolds/images2011/macbeth.jpg
Macbeth + Lady Macbeth (“Macbeth”)
You know what they say: the couple that murders together...oh, wait. No one says that. The Macbeths have one thing in common: they sure are power hungry. Unfortunately, that doesn’t keep them together. After they kill the king, Macbeth is killed and Lady Macbeth goes crazy.

Jaime + Cersei (“Song of Ice and Fire” series)
Well, they ARE brother and sister, so there’s that. But also, they’re both super evil. They push a child out a window so he doesn’t confess that he saw them having sex. That’s pretty messed up (we realize that Jaime is a pretty dynamic character and changes a lot to be not-so-evil, but he sure is a “bad boy” at the beginning).

Anastasia + Christian Grey (“Fifty Shades of Grey”)
There is S&M, and there’s abuse. It’s difficult to categorize the “Fifty Shades” relationship, but since Anastasia admits that she’s afraid of the guy, and ends up leaving him eventually, and he seems like a creepy, gross stalker for most of the books, we’re leaning towards the latter for this. When someone is young and immature enough to say “Geez” constantly and they’ve never even kissed a boy before, they’re probably not ready to make the decision of entering into a dom/sub relationship.

Howard Roark+Dominique Francon (“The Fountainhead”)
Well, he does rape her, even though it’s sort of not rape, but it really actually is rape. Also, they are both totally in love with each other, yet they never date and they both marry other people, and just constantly f*ck with each other until the end of the book.
http://wpmedia.arts.nationalpost.com/2012/07/frankenstein.jpg?w=200&h=288
Victor Frankenstein + Elizabeth (“Frankenstein”)
Please don’t be confused. Frankenstein is not the literal monster in Shelley’s classic (well, not literally, any way). Frankenstein is the doctor who creates the monster. So, we’re not talking necrophilia or anything here. Despite getting married, Frankenstein is way more obsessed with the monster in a lot of ways than he is with Elizabeth. The monster ends up murdering her. We are going to go ahead and blame this one on Frankenstein.

Raskolnikov + Sonya (“Crime and Punishment”)
While their relationship is, in fact, chaste, Raskolnikov remains a murderer and Sonya is a prostitute. We don’t really see that working out. Though they are extremely close, Raskolnikov hides the fact that he’s a murderer from Sonya for a long time. In a way, this story ends up with a happy ending sort of (Sonya follows Raskolnikov to Siberia where is imprisoned and begins to heal him with her love), but we still think it starts off pretty messed up (but we do give them props for working things out).
http://www.amypeveto.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/The-Scarlet-Letter-Nathaniel-Hawthorne-197x300.jpeg
Hester Prynn + Arthur Dimmesdale (“The Scarlet Letter”)
Arthur knocks Hester up. However, he’s a priest and they’re unmarried (actually, Hester is married to someone else entirely, but he’s not in town). Hester is forced to bear the shame of having someone else’s child out of wedlock, and doesn’t turn Dimmesdale in. Dimmesdale doesn’t confess until the very end of the book, after which he dies in Hester’s arms.

Oedipus + Jocasta (“Oedipus”)
Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother. Upon learning that they have done this, Jocasta kills herself and Oedipus gouges his eyes out. Yikes.
http://www.corporatecomplianceinsights.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/the-odyssey.png
Odysseus + Penelope (“The Odyssey”)
We know that misogyny used to be a lot more in fashion, but we still have difficulty with some of the stuff in this classic epic. Odysseus bangs just about every woman he meets on his journey (a man has his NEEDS), but upon finding out that there are all these suitors at his home, he freaks out, wondering if his wife has been faithful (dude has been gone for about a million years). We think Penelope could have done better (although Odysseus pretty much killed all the competition, so there wouldn’t have really been anyone left for her to date).
http://elissabraun.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/gonegirl.jpg
Nick + Amy (“Gone Girl”)
SPOILER ALERT (DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HAVE NOT YET READ “GONE GIRL”): Amy is a deranged psycho (oh, also a heartless killer) and Nick is a womanizing, cheating, jerk. It’s hard to say which of these characters is worse.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FbXOOc9tmlE/TZTAwfAi37I/AAAAAAAAGbM/GkJdl8QhNMw/s320/book-cover-middlemarch.jpg
Dorothea + Edward Casaubon (“Middlemarch”)
He is way older than her, but she thinks he’s an intellectual and hopes to be stimulated by how smart he is, so she marries him. She soon finds out that he doesn’t think too much of her ambitions. She realizes he isn’t all that smart, and he’s also a super jealous guy. When she forms a close friendship with his cousin, Casaubon forbids the cousin from entering the house. When Casaubon eventually dies, his will states that Dorothea loses her inheritance should she marry the cousin.
http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2013-06-04-annakarenina200x300.jpg
Anna + Karenin (“Anna Karenina”)
When a book begins with “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way,” you know you’re going to have a lot of dysfunction going on.The book is about Anna’s loud, public affair with Vronsky. She tells her husband openly that she doesn’t love him close to the beginning of the book. She is pretty much a train wreck (pardon our metaphor), and things do not end well for the couple (or for Anna).
