Despite passing laws against it in 1982 and 2004, there are still more than 450,000 Devadasies trapped in this form of prostitution, glorified by the heinous Hinduism sanctions. The girls are enslaved here in the name of tradition and godliness.
Devadasi literally means God’s (Dev) female servant (Dasi), where, young pre-pubertal girls are ‘married off’, ‘given away’ in matrimony to God or local religious deity of the temple. She serves or rather sexually satisfies the priests and inmates of the temple, the local land lords, and other men of money and power, in the village or town.
For her service to them is akin service to God.
In modern India it has become a huge business in which young devadasis are recruited in the city when they attain puberty.
As a result of 5000 years of Hindu culture in India, results despite claims of reformation and laws is 60.4% without toilets, 420 million poor, 18 million child marriages, highest in the world in slavery, 4th worst in treatment of women and 450000 Devdasi prostitutes for free.

When the country was celebrating the 148th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Sunday, the prevalence of Devadasi system has been reported in a remote village in Sindhanur taluk in Raichur district.
As per the Devadasi system, also known as ‘Jasavi system’ or ‘Jogiti system’, a young girl, usually from the Dalit community, is ceremoniously dedicated or married to a deity. Later, she is being sexually exploited by the powerful in the village.
As per a complaint lodged at Sindhanur Rural police station by Gopal Naik, project officer, Devadasi Rehabilitation Programme, Raichur, on Sunday, Ramakka (name changed) was recently “dedicated” to God Kanakaraya at a temple in Kanakagiri village in Gangavathi taluk in Koppal district. According to the police, the incident came to light when a social activist working for eradication of the Devadasi system visited the victim’s house recently and reported about it to the officers.
Sindhanur Rural police have booked a case against the victim’s mother, who is also a victim of the Devadasi system, under Karnataka Devadasis (Prohibition of Dedication) Act, 1982.
“The victim is physically challenged. She has told the officers working under the Devadasi Rehabilitation Programme that she voluntarily got ‘dedicated’ as she had lost hopes of getting married because of her physical disability. We will investigate the case,” Ramesh Rotti, circle police inspector, told The Hindu .

Devadāsi literally means ‘servant-maids of God’. Dedicating grown-up girls to the service of God in temples and places of worship seems to have been an ancient practice. Such practices also existed in Babylonia, Cyprus, Phoenicia, Greece, Mesopotamea, Syria, Arabia and some countries of South-East. Devadāsīs were often maintained by the kings or the society through grant of lands, money and materials. They were also given a place of honor in the society.It is difficult to say when exactly this custom began in India. According to some sociologists, the practice may have started in the 3rd century A. D. Some archaeologists ‘see’ a devadāsī in a female dancer modif that was discovered at Mohen-jo-Dāro (and dated to 2500 B. C.).
In general the duties of a devadāsī included:
[*]Keeping the temple precincts clean and neat
[*]Preparing flower garlands and other decorative materials for the deity
[*]Music and dancing as a part of the temple rituals
Unlike some retarded atheist who qoute idiotically a Muslim Facebook member who knows $HIT about Devadasi system, I choose to bring forth information from Swami Harshananda (a Hindu scholar).
In a nutshell, Devadasi system seems to be designed as an earliest form of orphanage. As some may know, unlike Western society, Hindu society do not have an orphanage and any individual born in a society, it will become the society's responsibility toward him or her if he or she have been orphaned at young age.
Therefore, it is possible that Devadasi system was a system designed to bring young women (especially since women are protected under Manu's Laws) into protected circle of a society by placing them under the care of the temple management. Here, the young women will grow up attending to the Gods and the temple, learn about Arts, Dancing and Music and live a normal life (including a chance to be married and have their own children). The society in return place them in a high status as they serve the gods.
So how did a noble system like this become evolved into a prostitution system or a system which abused women?
In the old days, social activities in a temple are patronized by the wealth members of the society as well as the King and Queen of the land, which means that the Devadasi women are indirectly under their patronize as well. This ensures that the tradition of Arts, Music and Dancing continues and becomes a service to Gods and Goddess as well. I guess this is why (unlike other places in the West), Arts, Music and Dance in India are considered a way to approach and serve God as well.
However, after the Muslims and Christians came to India, the Devadasi system - like most things in India - lost its noble purpose and become something else together. Muslims and Christians - who always believed that a woman's place is inbetween the legs of a man - viewed the arts of dancing, singing and arts as a perversion and equalized it to prostitution. They equalized a "servant of God" (Devadasi) to a street harlot because she choose to serve God through dancing, singing or through arts.
After Independance, many of the morons of India - the so-called Educated fools - continued to follow the labels set by their Muslim and Western masters and continued to label Devadasi system as a means of forcing women into prostitution. And that is how morons like Retard_Atheist can shoot their mouth without knowing a single fact.
