BIG AL, a dual-stage tube saturator, presents a wide array of exquisite sound flavors originating from the interactive network within its transformer-coupled pre and power amp. This analog hardware, crafted from novel circuitry and authentic NOS components from the 1930s, is uniquely tailored for this plugin.
Filter Freak:
The frequency conditioning of BIG AL commences within the EF9 preamp stage. A Baxandall filter, represented by the Low control, allows for the adjustment of saturation intensity around 100Hz, optionally combined with bass boosting or cutting.
An additional EQ band, controlled by the High knob, sits before the preamp tube. This peaking filter boosts or cuts high-frequency content around 10kHz, crucial for managing BIG AL's potential treble aggression.
Onboard Mods:
BIG AL's core circuitry is accessible via a jumper matrix, offering features like Emphasis Shift, Bass Compensator, and Voltage Sag. These options allow for dynamic alterations to the distortion profile with the simple insertion or removal of plugs.
The final touch is provided by the AL4 power pentode and its output transformer, heated by the preamp stage. The outcome? A harmonic saturation that exudes organic, musical, and bold characteristics.
