The Modwave, introduced in 2021, builds upon the esteemed DW lineage, evolving it into a contemporary powerhouse synthesizer. It features exceptionally deep wavetable oscillators, stunning filters, highly versatile modulation capabilities, sophisticated pattern sequencing, and macro controls. These elements combine to offer unique, robust, and easily adaptable sounds and sequences.
What exactly is a wavetable? Wavetables consist of sets of digital waveforms, each comprising a single cycle, arranged in a specific order. The position within the wavetable determines which waveform is produced. By manipulating this position using tools such as envelopes, LFOs, or other modulation sources, subtle or dramatic changes in timbre can be achieved. Some wavetable systems switch abruptly between waveforms, while others smoothly crossfade between them. The modwave excels at both techniques.
Modifiers play a crucial role, providing over 30 options to shape the essence of any wavetable upon loading. For example, one can isolate odd or even harmonics, add weight through anti-aliased quantization or saturation, or evoke the gritty character of vintage wavetable synths with selections like Vintage 8 & 12.
The Morph feature offers 13 distinct types that enable real-time manipulation of wavetables. Stretching, squeezing, reflecting—these actions can significantly alter the timbre, and when modulated, introduce dynamic motion to the sound. Sync Morph Types deliver classic swept-sync tones using only one oscillator, while special Morph Types like FM, AM, and Ring Mod modulate Oscillator 2 with Oscillator 1, with the latter two even applicable to samples.
The A/B Blend mode is another standout feature, allowing oscillators to blend any two wavetables with precise phase synchronization. This differs from mere voice layering, introducing a spectrum of intermediate waveforms. It can enhance thin sounds with depth or infuse subtle brightness into mellower tones. Furthermore, you can smoothly transition between different "modifier" versions of the same wavetable, all of which can be modulated in real-time.
In addition to its wavetable capabilities, the modwave offers gigabytes of samples that can be layered with wavetables. This is made possible by KORG’s advanced anti-aliasing sample playback technology. The sample library, spanning gigabytes in size, includes new material from KORG, Airwave, and Francis Preve, as well as contributions from Plugin Guru and selections from the Kronos and Krome libraries.
To activate, you'll need our KORG Software Pass release (v1.2.4 or later), which incorporates the keygen.
